Lafiore has worked with recycled glass since its founding, sourcing from beverage plants, demolished buildings, and other local streams to create objects that maintain the tradition of Mallorcan blown glass while finding new form.
Working with designer Niels Datema, Nico Guevara explored the possibilities of glass by designing a collection of lamps in several styles and scales. Each piece was designed by studying the specific limits of the material, knowledge that changes how you see the object and how it can be integrated into any type of environment or used for other purposes. It is exciting to see so-called useless waste become valuable. The story behind this material gives an interesting account of how materials from a specific site can be reprocessed and turned into something new for the local area.
