Teixits Riera – Canapé

A collaboration between Mallorcan textile manufacturer Teixits Riera and Nico Guevara Studio, presented at London Design Week 2019. The daybed draws from the rural austerity of the island — walnut, ikat fabric, and vegetable tan leather joined by a single belt that gives the whole piece its character.
The fabric is Roba de llengües, Mallorca’s traditional ikat woven in cotton and linen following a technique that travelled the Silk Route from east to Mediterranean. The hand-dyeing process is what makes each piece unrepeatable: during dyeing, the dye extends through the threads creating a flame effect at the edges of each motif.
